~ Twinleaf Town ~
I was watching a documentary on “The Search for the Red Gyarados” in my room, a story that had been famous in my home region of Johto a few years ago. Once I finished, I went downstairs to grab a drink, when my mother told me that Bezyda had called for me, and that it was an emergency.
What could that boy have been up to this time? Always getting himself (and me) into trouble. So I went outside to investigate, not without first being warned by mom that I shouldn’t enter the tall grass, because Pokémon migh attack me. Like I wouldn’t know that… >.>
Anyways, Bezyda’s house is only a short distance from mine. And just as I was about to enter, he bumped right into me! He was challenging me to a race, towards the lake, only to promptly go back inside because he forgot something… I tell you, he’s as hyper as it gets!
I quickly said hi to his mother Seriva before walking into his room, hoping he wasn’t changing or anything. Apparently he got what he needed, so he rushed by me, telling me to hurry to the street towards the lake. *sigh* I better follow him, before he gets in trouble. He’s a trouble magnet.

There he was, waiting for me. So what was the emergency? Well, apparently he had been watching the same documentary as I, and he was convinced that there had to be Legendary Pokémon in Lake Verity, which was nearby. Indeed, that was his ‘emergency’. What would he do if there was a Legendary? He wouldn’t possibly be able to catch it, let alone escape a battle unharmed. But I knew he wouldn’t let me go back home until we went there and confirmed everything.
~ Lake Verity ~
As we entered the area of the lake, we could see two strangers at the shore, an older
gentleman, and a boy that must have been around my age. Of course we were wondering what those two were up to, considering that we had never seen them around before. We couldn’t quite overhear what they were talking about, but not too long after we had spotted them, they made their way back, passing by us and leaving the lake area.
With the strangers gone, Bezyda remembered his objective, and started heading towards the shore, completely ignoring my warnings about the tall grass. Oh brother…
Of course, it came as it would, we were attacked by wild Starly, and just after we had found a seemingly abandoned briefcase, too. Bezyda guessed that it had to be the older man’s, and recalled hearing the boy call him ‘Professor’.
As the Starly swooped down, the briefcase fell over, revealing 3 PokéBalls. “He’ll forgive me if I use them for self-defense” I thought, grabbing one of them and releaseing the Pokémon within: a male Piplup, Lvl. 5.
My first Pokémon battle! I was overly excited and worried about making mistakes at the same time. But in the end, the Lvl. 5 Piplup literally pounded the Lv. 2 Starly into the ground. I didn’t use Growl at all, and 3 Pound Attacks were all that was needed to defeat the Starly.
Of course I was happy over my victory. That’s what being a Pokémon Trainer must feel like!
Bezyda had finished his fight too, and was basking in the awesomeness of having fought alongside a Turtwig. Somehow I’m not surprised he picked the one Pokémon that would hold an advantage over mine…
But our excitement didn’t last too long, as the boy from earlier returned, because apparently the ‘Professor’ had noticed the absence of his briefcase. He did not fail to notice that we had used two of the PokéBalls from inside it. I guess he must have felt like I do when Bezyda gets into trouble…
He left, mumbling about how he was going to explain what happened.
As Bezyda and I left the lake, we did both feel guilty. We had taken something that did not belong to us, and we would have to return it. Neither of us wanted to part with ‘our’ Pokémon, but what choice did we have? I was certain the Pokémon were missing the Professor too.
But each step we took away from the place it had all begun was slower than the previous one. It was one of those moments when you wish time would go slower.

We bumped into the boy and the Professor sooner than we had wished. To our astonishment, the Professor only took a quick look at the Pokémon we used, nodded, told the boy (whose name was Lucius, as we found out) that he’d head back to his lab, and left.
Lucius, still somewhat confused over the Professor’s reaction, followed him, but not before telling us to come and see the laboratory as soon as we could.
Bezyda and I were obviously quite confused ourselves. Why hadn’t they asked us to return the Pokémon? Why weren’t they showing any signs of anger over the fact that we had taken those Pokémon without permission? It apparead quite weird to us.
But for now, we had to concentrate on getting home and letting the said Pokémon take a rest. They just were in a battle, after all.

So we both headed home, still confused, but also sad over the thought of letting go of Turtwig and Piplup. I went and told my mother the whole story, and I assume that he did the same. He may be hyperactive, but he’s not a good liar.
Anyways, as I told my mother the story of what had happened, she told me that the old man might be Professor Rowan, a reknown Pokémon Professor. She also advised me to go see him and tell him my side of the story, as she was sure he would understand.
Encouraged by my mom’s words, I decided to leave for Sandgem Town within the day. After all, I wanted to prove that I was indeed not a thief, and that it had been an emergency. In addition, she had given me a pair of Running Shoes, which really seemed to make walking a breeze. All set like this, I was ready to leave the town once more today.
I went to get Bezyda (it was kinda his fault anyways, no?), but he was not at home. His mother didn’t say where he went, but she did not seem worried. So I assumed he had the same idea as I and went to Sandgem Town.

There I was, back on track. There were quite a few people on the road today. In order to get to see the Professor, I’d have to walk through the tall grass. “Here goes nothing…” I said, running like a swarm of angry wasps was after me. Why, you ask? One word: Bidoof.
I hate Bidoof. They are creepy and annoying and… I’d rather not talk about it. Why else did you think I had avoided the tall grass these past two years? Bidoof. They live here… they stalk you with their eyes… Brrr… *shiver*
But, just as expected, they managed to find me anyhow. I was tempted to run at first, but if I had to give up the little Piplup, I might as well battle with him some more. Plus, it might not be so bad for my Bidoof-Phobia to pummel one.
So there we go, a male Lvl. 2 Bidoof vs. ‘my’ Lvl. 5 Piplup. 3 Pound Attacks did the trick.
I was quite happy with my second victory. Sure, I still wouldn’t make Bidoof-pummeling a new hobby, but it took some of my anxiety regarding what was soon to come away.
Also, a nice person gave a Potion to me.
He said he worked at a PokéMart, a place where they sell items like this to Pokémon Trainers. A Potion was quite a good find, seeing as I could heal Piplup if things got critical and I couldn’t find a PokémonCenter.
Just as I turned around, another Bidoof appeared. Another male, but Lvl. 3. This time I needed 4 Pound attacks. And Piplup reached Lvl. 6!

However, Piplup’s health was running low. “Should I use a potion or make a run for the PokémonCenter?” I pondered. But, the town was within sight, so I decided to opt for the latter.

I was about to rush to the PokémonCenter to get Piplup healed, when Lucius spotted me. He led me towards the laboratory, where, as we were heading in, Bezyda popped out. He mumbled something about the Professor being a weird, but nice guy, and then he left, leaving Lucius to comment on how hyperactive my friend was, and always in a rush.
From Bezyda’s happy face I judged that the punishment was not severe. But why had he left East, rather than going back home?
To my astonishment, not only was there no punishment, but I obtained Piplup as a gift from Professor Rowan! I was incredibly happy, and right away named my new partner “Aoi Umi”.
But that wasn’t the only suprise: the Professor bestowed me with my very own PokéDex! He asked me to help him with his research in this vast world of Pokémon. How could I say no? I was still happy as pie, and more than willing to help him out.
I walked outside, where Lucius was waiting for me yet again. He showed me the PokémonCenter and the PokéMart in town. Then he told me to inform my parents of all that had happened, so that they would not worry. I promised him I would, and so he left north.![]()
Before my trip home however, I went to the PokéMart and bought 10x PokéBalls and 3 Potions. Because I had purchased so many balls, I got a PremierBall as added bonus. All stuffed with new items, I went to the PokémonCenter to heal Aoi Umi. He deserved a rest after all his battling.
Then I decided to call it a day. Many things had happened, but my mother knew she could trust me, so I stayed in the PokémonCenter for the night, to be refreshed and ready to come home to break the news.
